Hello. My name is Travis Satterfield.
I was raised in a Christian home, have gone to church all of my life, and have been teaching in a Christian high school for over 10 years. However, despite “growing up Christian,” I had a lot of questions which led to a lot of doubts. My questions went years without answers. My doubts went years without relief. But, I studied, and God directed. I thought, and God guided. I prayed, and God blessed.
By the grace of God, I have come a long way.
Even after finding many answers, it sometimes seems that I have more questions now than ever. Nevertheless, the more I study the more I find my belief in God confirmed, my reliance on the Bible deepened, and my faith in Jesus Christ strengthened. As a result, my view of culture with all of its variations and issues is enlightened. To quote C.S. Lewis,
I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.
This blog is simply the overflow of a personal journey. On it, I share my thoughts on theology, apologetics, and culture. The questions are real, the discussion is clear, the thinking is solid…and the sarcasm is frequent.
I hope you enjoy.
Why “Here’s the thing…”?

As I mentioned, I’m a teacher. That phrase is by far and away my most used cliche. A student even made a sign for me that simply reads “THING” so that I could hold it up and say…well, you know.
I guess you could say “Here’s the thing…” is kind of my thing.
